A legacy energy-trading platform moved to Kubernetes on AWS — with zero unplanned downtime.

Results
01The challenge
Voltgrid’s trading and metering platform ran on ageing servers in a single data centre. Releases happened twice a year over a weekend, scaling for winter demand meant buying hardware months ahead, and one failed disk had already taken trading offline for a morning.
02Our solution
We containerised the platform service by service and moved it to Kubernetes on AWS, with every environment defined in Terraform. GitOps pipelines with Argo CD replaced manual deploys, autoscaling now follows market demand, and a full observability stack alerts the team before customers notice anything.
03Key features
Fourteen services moved one at a time, each with a tested rollback.
Every environment reproducible from Terraform in under an hour.
Reviewed, automated deploys several times a day instead of twice a year.
Metrics, logs and traces with alerts tuned to trading hours.

07The team

We moved a platform that trades power every fifteen minutes without a single unplanned outage. Our cloud bill went down, our release count went up — and our engineers finally sleep through the night.
